May Day Model Workers Incentive Trip

It was a pat for the good work of the 208 May Day Model Workers by the Labour Movement. In addition to recognition with a May Day Model Worker award, these deserving workers were treated to an incentive trip to Bangkok and Pattaya.

U Festival

Over the weekend, Civic Plaza, Ngee Ann City was buzzing with activities as the Labour Movement moved in full force to engage the working people of Singapore with its first ever U Festival. Held from 17 to 18 May 2008, the U Festival attracted a crowd of about 50,000 visitors, including many union members and their families.

NWC Recommedations

NTUC has strongly supported the National Wages Council guidelines for 2008/09 announced on 16 May 2008 and which has been accepted by the Government.

Driving Re-employment Forward

At the learning journey to SBS Transit Limited’s East District Headquarters on 13 May 2008, NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say and 40 union leaders were given an update of the progress made by the Labour Movement on its re-employment efforts.

May Day Family Carnival

An estimated 20,000 union members and their families were at Downtown East and E!Hub in Pasir Ris on Sunday, 11 May 2008, to celebrate the May Day Family Carnival and Mother’s Day. Also present were NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say, President John De Payva, Central Committee members and representatives from the NTUC Social Enterprises. Guest of Honour Finance Minister Tharman Shammugaratnam said that the Labour Movement was changing together with Singapore society and had something to offer to everyone, young and old, male and female.

May Day Model Workers Award

The Labour Movement honoured 208 model workers and 21 outstanding companies during this year’s May Day Model Workers Award ceremony held at Downtown East on 10 May 2008. Reflecting the theme of “Celebrating Absolutely Everybody”, this year’s award ceremony bestowed accolades on employers and employees of all collars, ages and nationalities.
